When we moved in 5+ years ago we opted to abandon the upstairs "master" bathroom for the time being and just used the main floor bathroom. So it went from being 100% unusable to completely done, no in between bandage like the main floor bathroom and kitchen.
Here's some before photos...
Toilet and old sad sink............................................................................low ceilings
We were able to vault the ceiling...lots of old dirty insulation up there though!

Other side of the bathroom - there was a closet for our master bedroom that we removed and stole the space for the bathroom
(we already have a decent sized closet and the space was more valuable for the bathroom)
This bathroom was really the first step in our grand kitchen remodel. The laundry had previously been downstairs off the kitchen in a large laundry/cat room that was mostly wasted space. So we moved it upstairs. It's new home is the opening to the right of the window...

Finished product! A few weeks later and one mishap of stepping through the open floor making a hole into the office ceiling below...

David built this great vanity out of metal and wood - wanted two faucets but something unique.
Walk in shower with bench and rain shower head...love!
Sliding barn door to save space
And the view out the window...three happy fat goats and some little chickens. Not bad.
